Motorcycles are a relatively risky way to get around; accidents can be frequent, and often result in bodily injury. Motorcycle insurance can cover costly medical care, in addition to damage to your bike, other vehicles, and someone else’s property.
Motorcycle Insurance coverages
- Bodily injury & property damage liability
- Collision and other-than-collision
- Medical payments
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist
Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability
Pays for damages to other vehicles, property, and injuries to other drivers and their passengers. This will also cover legal expenses if you’re sued.
Personal Injury Protection OR Medical Payments Coverage
Personal injury protection is very similar to medical payments coverage, but also includes lost wages from the incident, as well as possible funeral expenses. Medical payments coverage is limited to cover accident-related medical expenses for you, your passengers, and other motorcyclists on your policy.
Collision Coverage & Other-Than-Collision
These two elements combined are often referred to as “full coverage”. Collision covers you if you cause an accident; tt will help you cover repairs to damage or replacement parts for your motorcycle. Other-than-collision is for damage to your vehicle that may not involve other drivers. This may include, but is not limited to fire, theft, explosion or earthquake, windstorm, hail, flood, vandalism, riot, hitting an animal, and broken glass.
Additional Coverages Available
Total Loss Coverage For A Brand New Bike
In the event of a total loss, you’ll be awarded the MSRP of a replacement bike (deductibles typically apply). This benefit will likely satisfy an existing loan, or pay for a replacement for your totaled motorcycle. A bike is considered “new” if it’s no more than one model year old on a new policy, or two model years old on a renewal.
Personal Belongings
If you carry items of relative value when you ride, this coverage can compensate you for smartphones, jewelry, hunting gear, or just about anything else that could get lost while riding.
Disappearing Deductible
Most insurance policies come with a deductible. But with this benefit, 25% of your original deductible is removed for each term you don’t have a claim. With four years of responsible behavior and good luck, your deducible will drop to $0. However, in the event you file a claim, the deductible returns to its original amount immediate afterward.
Enhanced Injury Protection
If you’re injured while riding and are no longer able to work, you’ll receive a weekly disability payment for up to two years. This coverage also includes an additional, built-in life insurance policy, to assist your survivors if you’re in a fatal accident.
Roadside Assistance
If your motorcycle is disabled on the side of the road, this coverage will help you get it to the shop, so you don’t have to push it.
